the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is,

Abram's wife,

He shall father twelve princes,

Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money,
every male among the men of Abraham's house,
and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day,

were circumcised with him.

And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre,
as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day.

He lifted up his eyes and looked,
and behold,
three men were standing in front of him.
When he saw them,

They said to him,
“Where is Sarah your wife?”
And he said,
“She is in the tent.”

The Lord said,
“I will surely return to you about this time next year,
and Sarah your wife shall have a son.”

seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation,

For I have chosen him,

Again he spoke to him and said,
“Suppose forty are found there.”

“For the sake of forty I will not do it.”

But he pressed them strongly;
so they turned aside to him and entered his house.
And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread,
and they ate.

Lot went out to the men at the entrance,
shut the door after him,

But he lingered.
So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand,
the Lord being merciful to him,
and they brought him out and set him outside the city.

He said to him,
“Behold,
I grant you this favor also,
that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

But Lot's wife,
behind him,
looked back,
and she became a pillar of salt.

let us make our father drink wine,
and we will lie with him,
that we may preserve offspring from our father.”

The next day,
the firstborn said to the younger,
“Behold,
I lay last night with my father.
Let us make him drink wine tonight also.
Then you go in and lie with him,
that we may preserve offspring from our father.”

So they made their father drink wine that night also.
And the younger arose and lay with him,
and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.

But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him,
“Behold,
you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken,
for she is a man's wife.”

Then God said to him in the dream,
“Yes,
I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart,
and it was I who kept you from sinning against me.
Therefore I did not let you touch her.

Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him,
“What have you done to us?
And how have I sinned against you,
that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin?
You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”

Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen,
and male servants and female servants,
and gave them to Abraham,
and returned Sarah his wife to him.

And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him.

Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him,
whom Sarah bore him,
Isaac.
Genesis 21:3 ESV

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old,
as God had commanded him.

Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
Genesis 21:5 ESV

And she said,
“Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children?
Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off,
about the distance of a bowshot,
for she said,
“Let me not look on the death of the child.”
And as she sat opposite him,
she lifted up her voice and wept.

Up!
Lift up the boy,
and hold him fast with your hand,
for I will make him into a great nation.”

He lived in the wilderness of Paran,
and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

After these things God tested Abraham and said to him,
“Abraham!”
And he said,
“Here I am.”

He said,
“Take your son,
your only son Isaac,
whom you love,
and go to the land of Moriah,
and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”

So Abraham rose early in the morning,
saddled his donkey,
and took two of his young men with him,
and his son Isaac.
And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

When they came to the place of which God had told him,
Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar,
on top of the wood.

But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said,
“Abraham,
Abraham!”
And he said,
“Here I am.”

He said,
“Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him,
for now I know that you fear God,
seeing you have not withheld your son,
your only son,
from me.”
Genesis 22:12 ESV

And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked,
and behold,
behind him was a ram,
caught in a thicket by his horns.
And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.

that he may give me the cave of Machpelah,
which he owns;
it is at the end of his field.
For the full price let him give it to me in your presence as property for a burying place.”

The servant said to him,
“Perhaps the woman may not be willing to follow me to this land.
Must I then take your son back to the land from which you came?”

Abraham said to him,
“See to it that you do not take my son back there.

So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter.

my lord.”

“I will draw water for your camels also,
until they have finished drinking.”

“I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah,
whom she bore to Nahor.”

So the man came to the house and unharnessed the camels,
and gave straw and fodder to the camels,
and there was water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.

Then food was set before him to eat.
But he said,
“I will not eat until I have said what I have to say.”

The Lord has greatly blessed my master,

she is your wife.
How then could you say,
‘She is my sister’?”
Isaac said to him,
“Because I thought,
‘Lest I die because of her.’”

The Lord blessed him,

He had possessions of flocks and herds and many servants,
so that the Philistines envied him.

the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen,
saying,
“The water is ours.”
So he called the name of the well Esek,
because they contended with him.

And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said,
“I am the God of Abraham your father.
Fear not,
for I am with you and will bless you and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham's sake.”

When Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his adviser and Phicol the commander of his army,

In the morning they rose early and exchanged oaths.
And Isaac sent them on their way,
and they departed from him in peace.

That same day Isaac's servants came and told him about the well that they had dug and said to him,
“We have found water.”

“Bring it near to me,
that I may eat of my son's game and bless you.”
So he brought it near to him,

Then his father Isaac said to him,
“Come near and kiss me,
my son.”

So he came near and kissed him.
And Isaac smelled the smell of his garments and blessed him and said,
“See,
the smell of my son is as the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed!

His father Isaac said to him,
“Who are you?”
He answered,
“I am your son,
your firstborn,
Esau.”
Genesis 27:32 ESV

Then Isaac trembled very violently and said,
“Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me,
and I ate it all before you came,
and I have blessed him?
Yes,
and he shall be blessed.”

Isaac answered and said to Esau,
“Behold,
I have made him lord over you,
and all his brothers I have given to him for servants,
and with grain and wine I have sustained him.
What then can I do for you,
my son?”

Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:
“Behold,
away from the fatness of the earth shall your dwelling be,
and away from the dew of heaven on high.

Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him,
and Esau said to himself,
“The days of mourning for my father are approaching;
then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

But the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah.
So she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him,
“Behold,
your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.

and stay with him a while,

until your brother's anger turns away from you,
and he forgets what you have done to him.
Then I will send and bring you from there.
Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?”

Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him,
“You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women.
Genesis 28:1 ESV

Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there,
and that as he blessed him he directed him,
“You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,”
Genesis 28:6 ESV

He said to them,
“Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?”
They said,
“We know him."
Genesis 29:5 ESV

He said to them,
“Is it well with him?"
They said,
“It is well;
and see,
Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep!”

As soon as Laban heard the news about Jacob,
his sister's son,
he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house.
Jacob told Laban all these things,
Genesis 29:13 ESV

and Laban said to him,
“Surely you are my bone and my flesh!”
And he stayed with him a month.
Genesis 29:14 ESV

So Jacob served seven years for Rachel,
and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.
Genesis 29:20 ESV

Jacob did so,
and completed her week.
Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife.
Genesis 29:28 ESV

Again she conceived and bore a son,
and said,
“Now this time my husband will be attached to me,
because I have borne him three sons.”
Therefore his name was called Levi.

So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife,
and Jacob went in to her.

When Jacob came from the field in the evening,
Leah went out to meet him and said,
“You must come in to me,
for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes.”
So he lay with her that night.

Then Leah said,
“God has endowed me with a good endowment;
now my husband will honor me,
because I have borne him six sons.”
So she called his name Zebulun.

But Laban said to him,
“If I have found favor in your sight,

Jacob said to him,
“You yourself know how I have served you,
and how your livestock has fared with me.

And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him with favor as before.

yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times.
But God did not permit him to harm me.

Then Rachel and Leah answered and said to him,
“Is there any portion or inheritance left to us in our father's house?

Are we not regarded by him as foreigners?
For he has sold us,
and he has indeed devoured our money.

And Jacob tricked Laban the Aramean,
by not telling him that he intended to flee.
Genesis 31:20 ESV

he took his kinsmen with him and pursued him for seven days and followed close after him into the hill country of Gilead.

But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night and said to him,
“Be careful not to say anything to Jacob,
either good or bad.”

Jacob went on his way,
and the angels of God met him.
Genesis 32:1 ESV

And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir,
the country of Edom,
Genesis 32:3 ESV

And the messengers returned to Jacob,
saying,
“We came to your brother Esau,
and he is coming to meet you,
and there are four hundred men with him."
Genesis 32:6 ESV

Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed.
He divided the people who were with him,
and the flocks and herds and camels,
into two camps,
Genesis 32:7 ESV

Please deliver me from the hand of my brother,
from the hand of Esau,
for I fear him,
that he may come and attack me,
the mothers with the children.
Genesis 32:11 ESV

So he stayed there that night,
and from what he had with him he took a present for his brother Esau,
Genesis 32:13 ESV

He likewise instructed the second and the third and all who followed the droves,
“You shall say the same thing to Esau when you find him,
Genesis 32:19 ESV

and you shall say,
‘Moreover,
your servant Jacob is behind us.’”
For he thought,
“I may appease him with the present that goes ahead of me,
and afterward I shall see his face.
Perhaps he will accept me.”

So the present passed on ahead of him,
and he himself stayed that night in the camp.

And Jacob was left alone.
And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.

When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob,
he touched his hip socket,
and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.

And he said to him,
“What is your name?”
And he said,
“Jacob.”

Then Jacob asked him,
“Please tell me your name.”
But he said,
“Why is it that you ask my name?”
And there he blessed him.

The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel,
limping because of his hip.

And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked,
and behold,
Esau was coming,
and four hundred men with him.
So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants.

But Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him,
and they wept.
Genesis 33:4 ESV

Please accept my blessing that is brought to you,
because God has dealt graciously with me,
and because I have enough.”
Thus he urged him,
and he took it.

But Jacob said to him,
“My lord knows that the children are frail,
and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me.
If they are driven hard for one day,
all the flocks will die.

And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

But Hamor spoke with them,
saying,
“The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter.
Please give her to him to be his wife.

So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him,
“Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments.

And Jacob came to Luz (that is,
Bethel),
which is in the land of Canaan,
he and all the people who were with him,

and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel,
because there God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.

God appeared to Jacob again,
when he came from Paddan-aram,
and blessed him.

And God said to him,
“Your name is Jacob;
no longer shall your name be called Jacob,
but Israel shall be your name.”
So he called his name Israel.

“I am God Almighty:
be fruitful and multiply.
A nation and a company of nations shall come from you,

And as her soul was departing (for she was dying),
she called his name Ben-oni;
but his father called him Benjamin.

Leah's servant:
Gad and Asher.
These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

And Isaac breathed his last,
and he died and was gathered to his people,

Jalam,

Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons,
because he was the son of his old age.
And he made him a robe of many colors.

But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers,
they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.

Now Joseph had a dream,
and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.

His brothers said to him,
“Are you indeed to reign over us?
Or are you indeed to rule over us?”
So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

But when he told it to his father and to his brothers,
his father rebuked him and said to him,

Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?”

And Israel said to Joseph,
“Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem?
Come,
I will send you to them.”

So he said to him,
“Go now,
see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock,
and bring me word.”
So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron,
and he came to Shechem.

And a man found him wandering in the fields.
And the man asked him,
“What are you seeking?”

They saw him from afar,
and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him.

Come now,
let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits.
Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him,
and we will see what will become of his dreams.”

But when Reuben heard it,
he rescued him out of their hands,
saying,
“Let us not take his life.”

And Reuben said to them,
“Shed no blood;
throw him into this pit here in the wilderness,
but do not lay a hand on him”—that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father.

the robe of many colors that he wore.

And they took him and threw him into a pit.
The pit was empty;
there was no water in it.

and let not our hand be upon him,
for he is our brother,

Then Midianite traders passed by.
And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit,
and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver.
They took Joseph to Egypt.

“It is my son's robe.
A fierce animal has devoured him.
Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces.”

All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him,
but he refused to be comforted and said,

Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt,
and Potiphar,
an officer of Pharaoh,
the captain of the guard,
an Egyptian,
had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.

His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands.

So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him,
and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.

From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had,
the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake;
the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had,
in house and field.

and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate.
Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.

she caught him by his garment,
saying,
“Lie with me.”
But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.

and she told him the same story,
saying,
“The Hebrew servant,
whom you have brought among us,
came in to me to laugh at me.

As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him,
“This is the way your servant treated me,”
his anger was kindled.

And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison,
the place where the king's prisoners were confined,
and he was there in prison.

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph's charge,
because the Lord was with him.
And whatever he did,
the Lord made it succeed.

So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house,
“Why are your faces downcast today?”

They said to him,
“We have had dreams,
and there is no one to interpret them.”
And Joseph said to them,
“Do not interpretations belong to God?
Please tell them to me.”

So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph and said to him,
“In my dream there was a vine before me,

Then Joseph said to him,
“This is its interpretation:
the three branches are three days.

Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph,
but forgot him.

A young Hebrew was there with us,
a servant of the captain of the guard.
When we told him,
he interpreted our dreams to us,
giving an interpretation to each man according to his dream.

my lord,
your servants have come to buy food.

Or else,

Then he turned away from them and wept.
And he returned to them and spoke to them.
And he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.

When they came to Jacob their father in the land of Canaan,
they told him all that had happened to them,
saying,

But we said to him,
‘We are honest men;
we have never been spies.

Then Reuben said to his father,
“Kill my two sons if I do not bring him back to you.
Put him in my hands,

for his brother is dead,

But if you will not send him,
we will not go down,
for the man said to us,
‘You shall not see my face,

They replied,
“The man questioned us carefully about ourselves and our kindred,
saying,
‘Is your father still alive?
Do you have another brother?’ What we told him was in answer to these questions.
Could we in any way know that he would say,
‘Bring your brother down’?”

I will be a pledge of his safety.
From my hand you shall require him.
If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you,
then let me bear the blame forever.

The man did as Joseph told him and brought the men to Joseph's house.

When Judah and his brothers came to Joseph's house,
he was still there.

my lord,
please let your servant speak a word in my lord's ears,

for you are like Pharaoh himself.

And we said to my lord,
‘We have a father,
an old man,
and a young brother,
the child of his old age.
His brother is dead,
and he alone is left of his mother's children,

Then you said to your servants,
‘Bring him down to me,
that I may set my eyes on him.’ Genesis 44:21 ESV

“When we went back to your servant my father,
we told him the words of my lord.

One left me,
and I said,
“Surely he has been torn to pieces,”
and I have never seen him since.

If you take this one also from me,
and harm happens to him,
you will bring down my gray hairs in evil to Sheol.’ Genesis 44:29 ESV

For your servant became a pledge of safety for the boy to my father,
saying,
‘If I do not bring him back to you,
then I shall bear the blame before my father all my life.’ Genesis 44:32 ESV

Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him.
He cried,
“Make everyone go out from me.”
So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers.

And Joseph said to his brothers,
“I am Joseph!
Is my father still alive?”
But his brothers could not answer him,
for they were dismayed at his presence.

Hurry and go up to my father and say to him,
‘Thus says your son Joseph,
God has made me lord of all Egypt.
Come down to me;
do not tarry.

And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them.

And they told him,
“Joseph is still alive,
and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.”
And his heart became numb,

the spirit of their father Jacob revived.

The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father,
their little ones,

“If now I have found favor in your sight,

Then Israel bowed himself upon the head of his bed.

Joseph was told,
“Behold,

So he took with him his two sons,

Now the eyes of Israel were dim with age,
so that he could not see.

The archers bitterly attacked him,
shot at him,

The blessings of your father are mighty beyond the blessings of my parents,

After he had buried his father,
Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone up with him to bury his father.

When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead,
they said,
“It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him."

‘Say to Joseph,
“Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin,
because they did evil to you.”’ And now,
please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.”
Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

His brothers also came and fell down before him and said,
“Behold,
we are your servants.”

So Joseph died,
being years old.
They embalmed him,
and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

Matthew 8:4 ESV

When he had entered Capernaum,
a centurion came forward to him,
appealing to him,

And he said to him,
“I will come and heal him."

When Jesus heard this,
he marveled and said to those who followed him,
“Truly,
I tell you,
with no one in Israel have I found such faith.
Matthew 8:10 ESV

He touched her hand,
and the fever left her,
and she rose and began to serve him.

That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons,
and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.

Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him,
he gave orders to go over to the other side.

And a scribe came up and said to him,
“Teacher,
I will follow you wherever you go.”
Matthew 8:19 ESV

And Jesus said to him,
“Foxes have holes,
and birds of the air have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Another of the disciples said to him,
“Lord,
let me first go and bury my father.”
Matthew 8:21 ESV

And Jesus said to him,
“Follow me,
and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
Matthew 8:22 ESV

And when he got into the boat,
his disciples followed him.
Matthew 8:23 ESV

And they went and woke him,
saying,
“Save us,
Lord;
we are perishing.”
Matthew 8:25 ESV

And the men marveled,
saying,
“What sort of man is this,
that even winds and sea obey him?"
Matthew 8:27 ESV

And when he came to the other side,
to the country of the Gadarenes,
two demon-possessed men met him,
coming out of the tombs,
so fierce that no one could pass that way.

And the demons begged him,
saying,
“If you cast us out,
send us away into the herd of pigs.”

And behold,
all the city came out to meet Jesus,
and when they saw him,
they begged him to leave their region.

And behold,
some people brought to him a paralytic,
lying on a bed.
And when Jesus saw their faith,
he said to the paralytic,
“Take heart,
my son;
your sins are forgiven.”

As Jesus passed on from there,
he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth,
and he said to him,
“Follow me.”
And he rose and followed him.

Then the disciples of John came to him,
saying,
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast,
but your disciples do not fast?”

While he was saying these things to them,
behold,
a ruler came in and knelt before him,
saying,
“My daughter has just died,
but come and lay your hand on her,
and she will live.”

And Jesus rose and followed him,
with his disciples.

And behold,
a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment,

he said,
“Go away,
for the girl is not dead but sleeping.”
And they laughed at him.

And as Jesus passed on from there,
two blind men followed him,
crying aloud,
“Have mercy on us,
Son of David.”

When he entered the house,
the blind men came to him,
and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
They said to him,
“Yes,
Lord.”

As they were going away,
behold,
a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him.

And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits,
to cast them out,
and to heal every disease and every affliction.

But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him,
how to destroy him.

aware of this,
withdrew from there.
And many followed him,

and ordered them not to make him known.

“Behold,
my servant whom I have chosen,

I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.

Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him,
and he healed him,
so that the man spoke and saw.

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

They said to him,

And they took offense at him.

“A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.”

“This is John the Baptist.
He has been raised from the dead;
that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him."

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias,

because John had been saying to him,
“It is not lawful for you to have her.”

And though he wanted to put him to death,

because they held him to be a prophet.

Now when Jesus heard this,
he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself.
But when the crowds heard it,
they followed him on foot from the towns.

Now when it was evening,
the disciples came to him and said,
“This is a desolate place,
and the day is now over;
send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”

They said to him,
“We have only five loaves here and two fish.”

Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side,
while he dismissed the crowds.

But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea,
they were terrified,
and said,
“It is a ghost!”
and they cried out in fear.

And Peter answered him,
“Lord,
if it is you,
command me to come to you on the water.”

Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him,
saying to him,
“O you of little faith,
why did you doubt?”

And those in the boat worshiped him,
saying,
“Truly you are the Son of God.”

And when the men of that place recognized him,
they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick Matthew 14:35 ESV

and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment.
And as many as touched it were made well.

And he called the people to him and said to them,
“Hear and understand:

Then the disciples came and said to him,
“Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

But Peter said to him,
“Explain the parable to us.”

But he did not answer her a word.
And his disciples came and begged him,
saying,
“Send her away,
for she is crying out after us.”

But she came and knelt before him,
saying,
“Lord,
help me.”

And great crowds came to him,
bringing with them the lame,
the blind,
the crippled,
the mute,
and many others,
and they put them at his feet,
and he healed them,

Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said,
“I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat.
And I am unwilling to send them away hungry,
lest they faint on the way.”

And the disciples said to him,
“Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came,
and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

And Jesus answered him,
“Blessed are you,
Simon Bar-Jonah!
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you,
but my Father who is in heaven.

And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him,
saying,
“Far be it from you,
Lord!
This shall never happen to you.”

Then Jesus told his disciples,
“If anyone would come after me,
let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James,
and John his brother,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

And behold,
there appeared to them Moses and Elijah,
talking with him.

He was still speaking when,
behold,
a bright cloud overshadowed them,
and a voice from the cloud said,
“This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him."

And the disciples asked him,
“Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?”

But I tell you that Elijah has already come,
and they did not recognize him,
but did to him whatever they pleased.
So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.”

And when they came to the crowd,
a man came up to him and,
kneeling before him,

And I brought him to your disciples,
and they could not heal him."

And Jesus answered,
“O faithless and twisted generation,
how long am I to be with you?
How long am I to bear with you?
Bring him here to me.”

And Jesus rebuked the demon,
and it came out of him,
and the boy was healed instantly.

and they will kill him,
and he will be raised on the third day.”
And they were greatly distressed.

He said,
“Yes.”
And when he came into the house,
Jesus spoke to him first,
saying,
“What do you think,
Simon?
From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax?
From their sons or from others?”

And when he said,
“From others,”
Jesus said to him,
“Then the sons are free.
Matthew 17:26 ESV

And calling to him a child,
he put him in the midst of them Matthew 18:2 ESV

but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

“If your brother sins against you,
go and tell him his fault,
between you and him alone.
If he listens to you,
you have gained your brother.
Matthew 18:15 ESV

If he refuses to listen to them,
tell it to the church.
And if he refuses to listen even to the church,
let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Then Peter came up and said to him,
“Lord,
how often will my brother sin against me,
and I forgive him?
As many as seven times?”

Jesus said to him,
“I do not say to you seven times,
but seventy-seven times.

When he began to settle,
one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.

And since he could not pay,
his master ordered him to be sold,
with his wife and children and all that he had,
and payment to be made.

So the servant fell on his knees,
imploring him,
‘Have patience with me,
and I will pay you everything.’ Matthew 18:26 ESV

And out of pity for him,
the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.

But when that same servant went out,
he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii,
and seizing him,
he began to choke him,
saying,
‘Pay what you owe.’ Matthew 18:28 ESV

So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him,
‘Have patience with me,
and I will pay you.’ Matthew 18:29 ESV

He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt.
Matthew 18:30 ESV

Then his master summoned him and said to him,
‘You wicked servant!
I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.
Matthew 18:32 ESV

And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers,
until he should pay all his debt.
Matthew 18:34 ESV

And large crowds followed him,
and he healed them there.
Matthew 19:2 ESV

And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking,
“Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?”
Matthew 19:3 ESV

They said to him,
“Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?”
Matthew 19:7 ESV

The disciples said to him,
“If such is the case of a man with his wife,
it is better not to marry.”
