5 Пото́м спра́шивают Его́ фарисе́и и кни́жники:

5 [Then, Later] [ask, asked, seek, seeking, they ask] [His, Him, It] pharisees and scribes:

заче́м ученики́ Твои́ не поступа́ют по преданию ста́рцев,

[how, wherefore, why] [students, disciples] [Thy, Your] [never, not] [arrive, coming, they are coming in, they arrive] [along, by, in, on, to, unto] преданию [elders, the elders],

но неумы́тыми рука́ми едя́т хлеб?

[but, yet] [defiled, unwashed, unwashen] hands [are eating, eating] [bread, loaves, shewbread]?

“Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders,
but eat with defiled hands?”
